This week's RANT: Random thoughts (6/12/02)
As usual, it's been a while since I had a rant. Things have been going well. The site is moving right along, I'm looking for ways to spike the hits a little bit, but it's all good. Some random items:
Saw Star Wars at the drive-in the other night. What a blast! The drive in is located down in Bowman, Georgia, about 50 minutes south of Abbeville. My fiance had seen it on her way back through the countryside the other day. When she told me I was jacked. I love the drive-in. I lamented the Auto Drive-In closing in Greenwood a few years back, so I was reasonably excited. And Star Wars no less?? So we took off and headed down there. Had a small cooler filled with Chek cola, bottled water, and ice cold candy bars, and a couple of lawn chairs thrown in the trunk. We get down there and damn if it isn't quite unique. They had 2 screens, both facing each other, on the opposite end of a huge field (Sum of All Fears was playing on the other, btw). In the exact middle between the two was a giant house. This giant house served as a projection house, ticket booth, and concession stand. We rolled up to the window and got our tickets, and went to get a parking space. You listen to the sound of the movie on your car stereo, not in the old boxes like you used to. We stepped inside the projection house to see vaulted ceilings and checkered floors. Keep in mind that this is in the middle of nowhere in Bowman, Georgia. We got a big popcorn and the lady at the counter was quite nice. This place was such a gust of nostalgia, a quaint backwoods type of down home operation. We asked what was coming on next and were told they were bringing back Spider-Man for a second run. We decided we'd go down again next week and catch that. Yeah, we've seen it, but it's different at the drive-in. I hope they get Eight Legged Freaks there, that's the perfect type of movie to see at the drive-in. In all it was a perfectly enchanting evening.
A couple of COMPLETELY random thoughts:
Did Mike Tyson get his ass beat or what? Man, that was unbelievable. This leaves the heavyweight division completely uninteresting. Who's to challenge Lennox? I don't see anyone. Maybe Evander. Maybe. Other than that it's slim pickings.
Now the lightweight division? Different story. Roy Jones, Jr., Floyd Mayweather, 'Sugar' Shane Mosley, Vernon Forrest, Oscar De la Hoya, Bernard Hopkins. All very exciting fighters. The lower weight classes are nmuch more interesting right now.
I told you. Completely random.
