Austin Powersfest 2002

AUSTIN POWERS GOLDMEMBER review & AUSTIN POWERSFEST 2002!!!!
It was with great pleasure that I put together Austin Powersfest 2002 the last 2 days. On Thursday (7/25)night we kicked it off by getting together to watch Austin Powers 1 & 2 back to back. Besides myself and Pohlman we had Matt C, Mouse, Ben, and the one and only L.D. We had a great time watching the originals, laughing, and basically cutting up. Highlighted by Matt C's proclamation of being a genius. We also absolutely pulverized a bag of Dorito's, 2 bottles of Pepsi, and a box of Krispy Kreme's. It was a cool time, plus we got primed for the new Austin Powers flick.

On day 2 (7/26), we meet at my house to go grab dinner at Taco Bell, keeping with the Powers theme of course since they are sponsoring Goldmember. Iceman and my fiance joined the fray, along with me, Matt C, Ben, Mouse, and LD. We swing by the theater and get tickets, picking up extras for those that join us later. We get to Taco Bell, the meal is highlighted by: ONE! ONE! ONE! Girl at the counter: ONE! LD knows what I'm talking about.

After dinner we head over to the 9:50 show, getting there at 9:20. We meet the rest of the party at the Crosscreek. I was very pleased with the group. After all was said and done we had: me, my fiance, Ben, Mouse, Matt C, L.D., Pohlman, Mizz Bryant, Jiggaman, Chris Mc, and Iceman. Tripp Speer was yukking it up in front of us, and Lactose Intolerant made a VERY prominent appearance.
The crowd was packed and it was ON. ON I tell you.
As for the movie:

It was funny. Damn funny. I laughed my tail off. Was it a quality film? Nah. The best Austin flick? Time will tell. But it WAS funny. Myers is a genius when it comes to stretching characters into new places. Some details:

Dr. Evil, of course, is the man. I would love to see a Dr. Evil movie. Myers has made him the real star. Mini-Me had more screen time, and was better this time. I enjoyed him quite a bit. Fat Bastard is just nasty. Nasty. His scene at the end is hilarious ( I won't give it away). Goldmember was just a goofy character. Some will like him, some won't. Any man that eats his own skin flakes is up for debate.

Seth Green shines a Scott Evil. However, if they make a 4th film, is he up to filling daddy's shoes? I'm not so sure. While her character is a little underdeveloped, Beyonce Knowles is nice as Foxxy Cleopatra. She surprised me as an actress. The cameos were excellent. EXCELLENT. I won't dare give them away, but they will NOT dissapoint.

In all it was funny movie. Nothing more. Nothing less. Just funny. That can not be denied. I would more than welcome a 4th Austin Powers flick. Here's hoping it will happen, because Myers' zany humor is needed in times like these.

Thanks goes out to all who attended Austin Powersfest 2002. It was quite a success, especially with the nice size group we had for Goldmember on Friday night. We'll do it again. LD had a great idea for the Friday the 13th/Jason marathon before 'Freddy vs Jason' comes out.

Overall:
Movie: 8 1/2 out of 10
The Fest: 10 of 10
